Party with Voodoo Cabaret This Weekend

The Shadow has received word that the musical group Voodoo Cabaret will be performing in San Francisco this weekend.

For those of you who are regular readers of this blog, you know that Voodoo Cabaret was the musical group that brought down the house during ARTWorkSF's Cafe Show and One Night Stand shows this past summer.

In their tradition, Voodoo Cabaret will play another art opening on Saturday, December 30, 2006.

The show is entitled: PROSPER: A GATHERING OF POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS. It will take place at Balazo Art Gallery, 2183 Mission Street (at 18th Street), San Francisco. Doors will open at 9:00 p.m. Cover is $5.00.

Voodoo Cabaret promises live music with a midnight ceremony to burn the old year away.

The Shadow will be in attendance and bring you the pulse of this year-end party.

The Shadow Meets Artist Heather Robinson

In what will be the final art reception that The Shadow will cover for ARTWorkSF this year, The Shadow made a visit to the Upper Market area of San Francisco to view a solo show by artist Heather Robinson.

One of Heather Robinson's works on display at the exhibit

This exhibit, which actually opened November 4, 2006, is currently being shown at 2223 Restaurant, located at 2223 Market Street, in San Francisco.

Despite the upcoming holidays, many people found time to enjoy wine and Hors d'Oeuvres and talk to Heather about her work.

This exhibit is entitled "The Ornamental Figure". It looks at "The language of embellishment and the historic idea of the female figure as decoration." The pictures that The Shadow has taken does not do the works justice.

This exhibit will run through January 4, 2007. The Shadow also recommends that you make an evening of it by having dinner at 2223 Restaurant and enjoying the artwork. The food is fantastic and the wait and bar staff are very friendly.

More From ARTWorkSF

As The Shadow mentioned, this is a very busy month. Along with the Peace, Love, Joy, Art 2006 show at the ARTWorkSF Gallery, there will be another solo show opening this week.

Artist Heather Robinson, whom The Shadow has not yet met, will be doing a solo show at 2223 Restaurant, located at 2223 Market Street in San Francisco. The show will be from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday December 13, 2006. Hope to see you there.

The Shadow was also saddened to hear of the departure of ARTWorkSF's former Director of Marketing Jen Morris.

Jen has always been accomodating to The Shadow and has made life very easy for him to get the pictures and stories for this blog. She also has a smile that will light any room (sorry guys, she is married). The Shadow will definitely miss her in this role. Luckily for ARTWorkSF, she will stay on as a volunteer.

The Shadow will post pictures from the Heather Robinson reception Wednesday night.

The Shadow Celebrates Peace, Love, Joy, Art

December has been a busy month for The Shadow. But The Shadow is determined to keep the San Francisco art community alive, even during this busy time of year.

Last Thursday, December 7, The Shadow made his monthly visit to the ARTWorkSF Gallery at 49 Geary Street. The exhibit for this month is "Peace, Love, Joy, Art".

This exhibit allows ARTWorkSF to exhibit lots of work from its member artists. Thirty local artists are exhibiting in this show including many of the people that The Shadow has featured this year.

It was a very crowded reception and with good reason. ARTWorkSF has probably one of the best gallerys at 49 Geary Street. And it is a very welcoming atmosphere.

Now here is the good part. For the next two Saturdays (December 16 and 23), you can go to the ARTWorkSF Gallery, have a glass of wine, and look for that special gift for that loved one you want to impress. All of the work (and others) at the show are on sale and are priced from $5.00 to $500.00.

The Gallery, at 49 Geary Street, #215, will be open for Secret Santa Saturdays from noon to 5:30 p.m. on December 16 and 23. Come and buy art and support local artists.

You can view all of the pictures from the reception (and there are a lot of them) here.
