And Lest We Forget

The Shadow would be very remiss if he did not mention one of the studios that he visited during last weekend's Mission Open Studios tour.

The Shadow spent some time (actually a couple of days) in the studios of the artist group known as "The Local 303" at 1890 Bryant Street Studios.  They are a fun group of guys and really know how to throw a party!

The members of Local 303 are:
  • Dave Garvey
  • Matt Delight
  • Josh Ellington
  • Jason Dryg
Unfortunately, we were having such a good time in the studio that we never got any pics to post online.  We will definitely remedy this during the Fall Open Studios in October.

In the meantime, if you want to know more of the goings on of The Local 303, just follow their blog here.

And guys -- thanks for the hot dogs!!

Mission Open Studios Day 2

The Shadow spent another four hours yesterday completing his travels of the Spring Mission Open Studios in San Francisco.

Some of the works on display this weekend

The Shadow visited the following studios yesterday:
  • Project Artaud
  • Workspace Limited Studios
  • 1890 Bryant Street Studios

Attendance yesterday was very disappointing however -- probably the combination of a warm day in the City along with other activities going on.  But for those who did make it -- we think you can agree that it was definitely worthwhile.

More works on display

Something we would really be amiss not to mention was The Shadow's visit to Jasmine Rae Bakery in the 1890 Bryant Street Studios.  You have heard The Shadow mention art in various medias, but here is a new one -- food.  Jasmine's creations are a true work of art and very tasty as well (her mom made it a point to make sure that The Shadow got a free cupcake to sample).  She is definitely worth a visit -- her website is here.

It was a fun weekend and there was lots to see.  We will be back in October for Fall Open Studios.  The Shadow would also like to thank all of the artists who took time to see us this weekend.

Hunter's Point will be our next stop for their Open Studios next weekend.  More to come.

Mission Open Studios Day 1

With all of the partying now at an end, The Shadow is now able to concentrate on Open Studios in the Mission District instead.

Some of the works on display this weekend

The Shadow visited the following studios today:
  • ActiveSpace
  • Art Explosion -- 17th Street Studios
  • Art Explosion -- Harrison Street Studios
  • Art Explosion -- Alabama Street Studios
  • Developing Environments Studios

The Shadow has always believed that, of the three independent Spring Open Studios given in the City, the Mission District has always come out on top in our book.  The work of artists in this section of town is always cutting edge and The Shadow has never been disappointed.  In fact, one of the newest forms of art that The Shadow viewed this year was 3-D art that required 3-D glasses to view (and yes, for the first time since The Shadow has been doing this blog -- he had to remove his glasses to view the art with the 3-D glasses).

More work on display this weekend

If you did not get out today, there is still time.  Mission Open Studios will be taking place on Sunday from 11:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m.  The Shadow will be in the area until 3:00 p.m. tomorrow before leaving for another event, but we will see the remaining studios at that time.

Art Explosion Opens Spring Mission Open Studios

Yes, folks, you heard right. The 2009 Mission Spring Open Studios has finally arrived!

Some of the work that The Shadow viewed tonight

The Shadow visited the three locations of Art Explosion in the Mission District of San Francisco tonight for their preview party.  It was a slow night, but it gave The Shadow a chance to reacquaint himself with many of the artists that he had not seen since Fall Open Studios in San Francisco.

More works seen by The Shadow tonight

Based on what The Shadow has seen tonight, attendees of this year's Spring Mission Open Studios will be very pleased.  There is a lot of new work out there this time around, and we have only visited three of the studios that will be open this weekend.

More works seen by The Shadow tonight

Mission Spring Open Studios will take place this Saturday and Sunday, April 25th and 26th.  Studios will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.  There will also be preview receptions taking place between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Friday, April 24th.
