Adventures in Clay Workshop Announcement

Part of the mission of this blog is to bring art and culture to the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. Well we not only bring you pictures of the receptions that we attend, but also other goings on in the art world.

Artist Natasha Dikareva, whom The Shadow has featured on many of these pages, has just written to inform us of a workshop she is holding on November 10th and 17th in San Francisco.

The following is her announcement:

Adventures in Clay

Ceramic Sculpture Workshop with Natasha Dikareva

Sat November 10 and Sat November 17 (11am – 5pm)
New and returning all levels students are welcome!
Sculpt with clay in the studio 9 workshop!

Workspace Limited, 2150 Folsom Street @18th in San Francisco's Mission District.

This workshop is suited for people either new to ceramic sculpture or looking to improve their ceramic skills. The course is centered on fundamental principles of clay sculpting. Whenever you feel comfortable is where we begin. All subject matter – whether "traditional" or "your own" - is acceptable.

Bring an idea to start with or we'll create one that suits you. Teapots, masks, busts, reliefs, animals, abstractions, buildings and everything in between. All sculptures will be glazed and fired as needed. The workshop will cover:

  • hand-building techniques
    pinch slab
    press molding
    coil modeling
  • texture
  • under-glazes
  • engobes
  • glazes

The cost of the course is $200 which includes 12.5 lb of clay, selection of cone 04 glazes, clay tools, and plaster molds. Please bring working clothes, some hand lotion, and a snack for the tea break.

Deposit to hold a space $100 due by November 1.
