The Shadow Offers California Endorsements
With the General Election now 10 days away, The Shadow is now ready to give California voters his recommendations for the upcoming election.
Many of you may or may not agree with The Shadow's recommendations. In fact, The Shadow know that at least one faithful reader will make it a point to send me a nasty message -- The Shadow has already received on from this person in advance of this posting. The Shadow will allow all reasonable comments to be posted.
These recommendations are The Shadow's personal recommendations -- no campaign or candidate has approached The Shadow nor paid The Shadow to be listed here.
For the State of California, The Shadow endorses the following people (party affiliations are not listed):
- Governor - Phil Angelides
- Lieutenant Governor - John Garamendi
- Treasurer - Bill Lockyer
- Secretary of State - Debra Bowen
- Controller - John Chiang
- Attorney General - Jerry Brown
- Insurance Commissioner - Cruz Bustamante
The Shadow recommends the following for California Propositions:
- 1A (Transportation Funding Protection -- Constitutional Amendment) - Yes
- 1B (Highway Safety, Traffic Reduction, Air Quality, and Port Security Bond Act of 2006) - Yes
- 1C (Houseing and Emergency Shelter Trust Fund Act of 2006) - Yes
- 1D (Kindergarten-University Public Education Facilities Bond Act of 2006) - Yes
- 1E (Disaster Preparedness and Flood Prevention Bond Act of 2006) - Yes
- 83 (Jessica's Law -- Monitoring of Sex Offenders and Increasing Punishment) - Yes
- 84 (Water Quality, Safety and Supply) - Yes
- 85 (Waiting Period and Parental Notification Before a Minor's Abortion) - No
- 86 (Tax on Tobacco) - No
- 87 (Tax on California Oil Producers) - No
- 88 (Education Funding Through Real Property Parcel Tax) - No
- 89 (Political Campaign Financing Statute) - Yes
- 90 (Government Acquisition, Regulation of Private Property) - No
The Shadow also endorses U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein for re-election to another term.
In San Francisco, The Shadow will make no endorsements for city/county offices (with the exception of the one that has already been made) but will offer recommendations for the following propositions:
- A (Bond issue for school repair) - Yes
- B (Parental Leave for Board of Supervisors and City Boards/meeting by teleconference) - No
- C (Setting the Salary of County officials to Bay Area Average) - Yes
- D (Private information disclosure prohibition by the City) - Yes
- E (Parking Tax increase) - Yes
- F (Paid Sick Leave for San Francisco Employees) - Yes
- G (Conditional Use Permit for Formula Retail Use Stores) - Yes
- H (Relocation funds to evicted tenants) - Yes
- I (Requires the Mayor to appear at Board of Supervisor Meetings once a month) - No
- J (Advisory Measure -- Impeachment of President and Vice President) - Yes
- K (Housing options for Seniors and Disabled Persons) - Yes
The Shadow also endorses Representative Nancy Pelosi for re-election to the House of Representatives from San Francisco.
